Zabul Welcome’s Ambassador Eikenberry
On July 30th Ambassador Eikenberry traveled to Zabul to meet with the people and officials of that province, and learn more about their hopes and concerns. He visited a local market and spoke with shopkeepers there, toured the Qalat power plant and met with Governor Mohammed Ashraf Naseri to discuss priorities for Zabul: security, education, and building human capacity. He also took time to hear from provincial officials and other leaders.
The Ambassadors wife, Ching Eikenberry, also traveled to Zabul, where she learned about “Strong Food,” a partnership between the PRT and the local community to treat infant and child malnutrition. Produced and distributed in the Provincial Department Public Health building, the program supplies children ages six months to five years with a nutritional supplement composed of local ingredients: ground almonds, powdered sugar, powdered milk, cooking oil and multivitamins. The supplement requires no refrigeration and can be easily produced and stored.
