Closure of non-emergency services in honor of the New Year's Day holiday
To Warden Registrant List:
This notice is to advise American citizens residing or traveling in Afghanistan that the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul will be closed for all routine services Thursday, January 1st in honor of the New Year’s holiday.
The Embassy will re-open for all normal business on Sunday, January 4th.
The Embassy will continue to handle emergencies throughout the weekend. Americans who find themselves in cases of extreme emergency in Afghanistan may contact the Embassy receptionist via 0700-10-8001 or the Consular Section via mobile at 0700-20-1908.
The Consular Section reminds all those traveling or residing in Afghanistan that no part or the country should be considered immune from violence, and the potential exists throughout the country for hostile acts, either targeted or random, against American and other Western nationals at any time. Recently the Embassy has seen an increase in the number of threats directed towards specific individuals and foreigners throughout the country continue to be targeted for violent attacks and kidnappings, whether motivated by terrorism or criminal activity. We ask that you please frequently update your contact information at https://travelregistration.state.gov, particularly when moving for extended periods of time to a different part of the country. In addition, please relay this message to all US citizens who are currently in Afghanistan but have not yet registered with the Warden Message system.
Sincerely,
Consular Section
U.S. Embassy
Kabul, Afghanistan
