The U.S. Embassy in Kabul is seeking an individual for the position of Audio Visual Technician in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The Audio Visual Technician is responsible for supporting important mission events in Kabul and throughout Afghanistan; recording appropriate American Embassy Television Network (AETN) and Voice of America (VOA) programs for use by the Embassy. Is responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, operation of a variety of audiovisual equipment and use of advanced graphic design skills to design an array of PAO brochures, flyers and other visual aids.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
Education: Completion of secondary (High) school is required.
Experience: One year of progressive experience in use and maintenance of audiovisual equipment, printing equipment, planning and executing a variety of art work, visual aids and exhibit is required.
Language: level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading English, Dari and Pashto is required.
Knowledge: Good knowledge of a variety of audiovisual equipment and equipment used in diagnosis and repair of A/V equipment and thorough knowledge of all standard safety precautions and procedures is required.
Must have knowledge of various methods and techniques of visual communications such as exhibits, illustrations in publications and assembling of display units. Should have knowledge of printing, designing, photocopying and general clerical skills.
Abilities and Skills: Ability to install, operate and carry out routine maintenance and monitor repairs on various audiovisual equipment and the ability to design layout of thematic art/exhibit programs is required. Should have the ability to interpret the needs of staff and related electronic equipment to program requirements. Must have good interpersonal skills to handle people with politeness and tact. Good computer skills including use of e-mail is require.
SELECTION PROCESS

*DEFINITIONS
Ordinarily Resident (OR): A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permits for employment in country.
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): Typically NORs are US Citizen EFMs and EFMs of FS, GS, and uniformed service members who are eligible for employment under an American USG pay plan, on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
