The U.S. Embassy in Kabul is seeking an individual for the position of Electrician with Facilities Maintenance Section (FMS).

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The incumbent is expected to perform all installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using acceptable methods and practices established by industry standards in U.S. Embassy properties including Chancery, Cafeteria, Staff Living Quarters and all other U.S. Government owned or leased properties. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

Education:  Completion of secondary (high) school is required.
Experience: Three years experience working as an Electrician at journeyman level is required.
Language: Level 2 (limited knowledge) speaking/reading in English and level 3 (good working knowledge) speaking/reading in Dari language is required. 
Knowledge: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models is required. Must have knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, circuits boards, processor chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, materials, methods and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures.
Abilities and Skills:  Should have the skills to repair machines or systems, determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it, install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.  Must be skilled in the use of mathematics and scientific rules and methods to solve problems.  Ability on manual dexterity, near vision, finger dexterity, visual color discrimination, problem sensitivity, information ordering and written comprehension, is required.   

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

1.  Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

*DEFINITIONS
Ordinarily Resident (OR): A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permits for employment in country
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): Typically NORs are US Citizen EFMs and EFMs of FS, GS, and uniformed service members who are eligible for employment under an American USG pay plan, on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
