Afghan Minister of Commerce Shahrani, Minister of Agriculture Rahimi, and French Ambassador to Kabul Jean de Ponton d’Amecourt joined Ambassador Karl W. Eikenberry on a trip to Khost Province June 25. The trip focused on security, education, and agriculture.

At the start of the trip, the Ambassadors and Ministers met with officials from the Afghan National Army, Police, and Border Police at the Operation Coordination Center. Afterwards, speaking to the media, the Ambassador praised the close cooperation displayed by the security players and noted that there were no Taliban safe havens in Khost Province. The delegation then joined the soldiers of the Afghan National Army 203rd Infantry Kandak for lunch. Later, meeting with a group of students at a new university in Khost, the Ambassador pledged increasing U.S. support to reconstruction, job creation, agriculture, and education.

A U.S. Army National Guard Agricultural Development Team was the focal point for the Ambassador’s final stop, at the Khost Provincial Reconstruction Team. The Ambassador praised the remarkable progress he had witnessed in Khost, and promised more U.S. support for agriculture in the province.”
