As soon as he became aware of this horrific incident, General Allen made a formal apology and a very strong statement about accountability.  That has now been followed by…Secretary Panetta’s strong statement…making clear that he also apologized on behalf of the United States to the Afghan people and to people around the world who were offended by this conduct, which we all disapprove of, and made absolutely clear that he plans to hold those responsible to account.
