Statement on the Conclusion of the Consultative Peace Jirga
June 4, 2010
The United States welcomes the discussions held in the Consultative Peace Jirga over the last three days in Kabul. These discussions are the beginning of a process that we believe can help bring stability to Afghanistan and long-desired peace to its people.
The United States again offers our support for an Afghan-led process of reconciliation and reintegration that seeks to bring back into society those who cease violence, break ties with Al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist groups, and live under the Afghan Constitution, including provisions that protect the rights of all Afghan men and women. We will continue to encourage and support the Afghan Government’s efforts to foster national dialogue on the most critical issues Afghanistan faces.
