Statement by New US Ambassador William B. Wood

I am delighted to be in Afghanistan as President Bush’s Ambassador to President Karzai and the Afghan people. I thank President Karzai for receiving me so quickly. As you know, to be an Ambassador you are not only sent but must also be received. In our first meeting, President Karzai and I touched on many aspects of our broad and deep relationship. I look forward to continued partnership with the government of Afghanistan, the Afghan people and out international colleagues. Afghanistan can count on the United States for the long term.
