U.S. Embassy Statement on the Announcement of Full Preliminary Results
The United States notes the announcement of the full preliminary results of the Afghan Presidential elections and awaits the final certified results, which will come after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) have carried out investigations of complaints and required audits and recounts, including of the over 600 polling stations that have been quarantined. We hope that these investigations can be carried out rigorously, in a timely fashion, and with maximum cooperation between the two independent electoral bodies.
As we await the results, we continue to urge candidates and their supporters to remain patient during this process.
