U.S. Embassy Statement on Joint IEC-ECC Announcement

The United States welcomes the announcement today by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) that they have agreed on an approach to implement the ECC’s order of September 8 in accordance with international standards. We are pleased to see these two important independent electoral bodies working closely together to ensure that all valid votes are counted and fraudulent votes excluded. The continued cooperation of the IEC and ECC to complete investigations, audits and recounts in a timely and credible fashion is vital to realizing the electoral process.
We look forward to the certified results and look to all candidates and their supporters to remain patient as this process continues.
