Ambassador Eikenberry pays respects at bombing site
On August 17 Ambassador Eikenberry met with the Afghan Minister of Transportation and his staff at their offices in Kabul, which were badly damaged in a terrorist bombing two days earlier. Ambassador Eikenberry told the minister, as well as local Afghan television stations Tolo TV and RTA, that the United States condemns this cowardly act of terror against the people of Afghanistan, while expressing his condolences to the families of the victims. Ambassador Eikenberry added: "We stand with the people and government of Afghanistan in their national defense against those who carried out this criminal act."
