On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and the American community in Afghanistan, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of National Assembly candidate Ashraf Ramazan. His murder yesterday in Mazar-e-Sharif by unknown assailants is a tremendous loss to his family and to all the citizens of Balkh Province who voted for him in last week's election.
We urge the Government of Afghanistan to use all of its resources to find
Mr. Ramazan's killers and bring them to justice as soon as possible.
