The people of Afghanistan today committed $100,000 to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina in the United States. Khan Mohammed, a citizen representing the Afghan people, presented a letter from President Karzai earmarking the funds for disaster relief.

Ambassador Ronald E. Neumann received the letter during a ceremony at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. “On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the people of Afghanistan. Their compassion and generosity bears testimony to the strength of the ties between our two peoples.”

Hurricane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast of the United States on August 29th has resulted in the deaths of an unknown number of people and displaced thousands in its wake.
