We are saddened by today’s attack in Herat on professionals helping train and equip Afghanistan’s National Police force under a contract with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.  We extend our sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.

Those attacked in Herat are part of a community of thousands of Afghan and international partners who work everyday to bring peace and stability to the Afghan people.

We are confident that the perpetrators of these attacks, who aim to undermine the undeniable progress Afghanistan has achieved, will be found and brought to justice.
