We are saddened by today’s crash in Lashkar Gah of an Antonov-32 aircraft under U.S. government contract. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed or injured in this tragic accident.

The U.S. Embassy has already begun providing assistance to all of those affected. We are especially committed to aiding the Afghan families involved in this incident

We are now working closely with Afghan authorities and our international partners to investigate the circumstances that led to this crash. The personnel aboard the plane, which was under contract to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, were working toward building a stable, democratic, and prosperous Afghanistan.

On behalf of the United States and the entire American community in Afghanistan, I express our deepest sympathy to all those who suffered a loss in this terrible incident and send our best wishes for a quick recovery to all of those who were injured.
