The United States congratulates Afghanistan’s Parliament for yesterday’s confirmation of a new Cabinet and extends our best wishes to each of the new Ministers. We applaud lawmakers for their shared commitment to a democratic political process as demonstrated during the confirmation hearings.

The United States now looks forward to intensifying international cooperation with the Government of Afghanistan in advancing democracy, security and economic development in the coming days.  This historic vote marks another important step forward along the path to a free, prosperous, and democratic Afghanistan.
