The United States condemn in the strongest possible terms the Sunday attack on Speaker of the Meshrano Jirga, Professor Sibghatullah Mojadedi, in which two Afghan bystanders were killed.
We join with the international community in deploring this unconscionable act of violence aimed at undermining the stability and undeniable progress made by the Afghan people and their government.
As Speaker and Head of the National Reconciliation Commission, Professor Mojadedi exemplifies his country’s unwavering resolve to build a stable, united and democratic Afghanistan.
We remain confident that the Government of Afghanistan will be successful in finding and bringing to justice all those who assist in these senseless and cowardly acts of violence.
On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and the American community in Afghanistan we express our hope for Professor Mojadedi’s speedy recovery and extend our sincere condolences to the families of those killed.
