Ambassador and Mrs. Eikenberry Bring a Message of Hope to Paktika

Ambassador and Mrs. Eikenberry traveled to Sharana, the capital of Paktika province, on Monday, August 3rd for meetings with government officials, tribal leaders, and PRT staff. After consultations with the governor, the Ambassador addressed a shura of leaders from all across the province, telling them if the people of Paktika will come out to vote and make their voice heard, they can count on the support of the government of Afghanistan, the United States and the international community in making a better life for their people.

Later in the day, the Ambassador spoke with farmers at an agricultural training facility set up with the help of PRT personnel and funding. Mrs. Eikenberry met with the Provincial Director for Women’s Affairs, as well as female health workers at Sharana hospital. Ambassador Eikenberry was accompanied throughout the day by reporters from the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Shamshad TV and Radio Killid, while Mrs. Eikenberry was accompanied by a reporter from Voice of Women radio.
