PDAS Nichols Visits Drug Treatment Center in Kabul

On September 16, INL Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Brian Nichols visited the Sanga Amaj drug treatment center for women and children in Kabul, which is supported by INL through Colombo Plan and operated by Social Services for Afghan Women (SSAWO), an Afghan non-governmental organization.  Director Dr. Toorpekay provided PDAS Nichols with a tour of the center and explained that SSAWO provides patients with a 45-day treatment regime, including detoxification, counseling services, and vocational training.  Since opening five years ago, the center has treated more than a thousand women and five hundred children.   In the near future, SSAWO will open another drug treatment center in Kabul for male patients, which will enable the organization to provide simultaneous treatment to entire families.
