Ambassador Eikenberry Opens Lincoln Center in Kunduz
Together with Minister of Education Wardak and Kunduz Governor Omar,Ambassador Eikenberry presided over the Grand Opening of the Kunduz Lincoln Center (LC), the seventh LC in Afghanistan. All three spoke of the incredible resource the LC provides Kunduz and the real bridge the LCs have become between the Afghan and American people.
Ambassador Eikenberry and Minister Wardak also visited a women's cooperative that provides vocational training and education, runs a tailoring factory and provides day-care/kindergarten for the children of the employees. The Ambassador was inspired by the work of the women's cooperative and spoke at length with the women about their role in re-building their nation.
The Ambassador rounded out his visit to Kunduz with stops at the German PRT and State-Department sponsored Regional Training Center for the Afghan National Police. At both sites, the focus of discussion was reconstruction,providing security for the upcoming Afghan elections and normal life in the province, and the importance of the partnership between the Afghan, American and German teams.
