Jazz Night

On April 23, "Mission Essential," a band made up of U.S.  Embassy and ISAF personnel, played a show in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month to an audience of Afghan and foreign guests. Because most of the audience were unfamiliar with jazz, band leader Nick Katsakis introduced each song with a few words explaining where it fit in the history of jazz. One of the most well received songs was “Take Five,” by Dave Brubeck, who had visited Afghanistan in 1958 as part of a State Department goodwill tour of Europe and Asia.
