Under Secretary James Glassman Engages Kabul U students

Approximately 35 Kabul University students gathered in the University’s Lincoln Center to share their ideas and opinions about U.S. public diplomacy engagement in Afghanistan.  Among the audience members were previous and future exchange grantees and an American professor from Kansas State University.  The students emphasized the need for resources such as the Lincoln Center, which provides internet access and English-language materials, as well as the benefits of exchanges for Afghanistan.  They also requested additional assistance to improve educational opportunities in Afghanistan.

Babur’s Garden Impresses

Undersecretary James Glassman and his delegation toured the restored historic Babur’s Garden.  Since 2002, the State Department has supported and implemented the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, which supported the building of an informational center at Babur’s Garden.  Cultural Preservation programs show a different American face, one that is non-commercial, non-political and non-military.  By taking a leading role in efforts to preserve cultural heritage, the U.S. shows its respect for other cultures.  Since the program’s inception, the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation has supported close to $1 million in preservation projects.
