U.S. Trade Rep Engages Media with Afghan Officials, Businessmen

Michael Delany, Assistant United States Trade Representative for South Asian Affairs accompanied by a U.S. delegation visited Kabul October 7-10 to discuss the Trade Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). Delaney and Afghan Minister of Commerce Muhammad Amin Farhang held a joint press conference October 8 at the end of TIFA negotiations to discuss trade and investment in Afghanistan. On October 9, Delaney toured two Kabul industrial parks and met with Afghan business leaders. At Pol-e-Charkhi industrial park, Delaney joined local businessmen for a press conference covered by leading television and radio stations. Delaney and his Afghan interlocutors stressed the need for the Afghan parliament to pass laws currently before them designed to strengthen the free market climate and private investment protections.
