EID MUBARAK MESSAGE
September 2009
Salaam Aleykum. As the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, on behalf of the American people and the United States Government, I send warm greetings to Muslims in Afghanistan celebrating Eid ul-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking the Fast. May the coming days of Eid and beyond be filled with blessings for you, your family and friends.
The three-day festival of Eid ul-Fitr marks a time when Muslims around the world, including millions of American Muslims, provide for those less fortunate than themselves and seek ways to advance prosperity and peace. I can think of no more important objective for Afghanistan, a country that deserves peace and prosperity after decades of conflict.
As the new moon ushers in a new month, I hope it will bring renewed determination for an Afghan future marked by hope and optimism. With this in mind, I and the American people send you our best wishes for a joyful celebration. Eid Mubarak!
